Rafał Olbiński

Rafał Olbiński urodził się w 1943 roku w Kielcach. Po ukończeniu studiów na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Warszawskiej wyemigrował do Stanów Zjednoczonych, gdzie szybko zyskał sławę jako uznany plakacista, ilustrator, malarz. Wykładał m.in. w prestiżowej School of Visual Arts w Nowym Jorku. Jego prace znalazły się na okładkach tak znaczących czasopism jak „Newsweek", „Time", „Der Spigel", „Stern". W swojej twórczości posługuje się jedyną w swoim rodzaju, autorską stylistyką surrealistyczną, która zaskakuje, zachwyca i uwodzi.

Artysta otrzymał ponad 150 prestiżowych krajowych i zagranicznych nagród oraz odznaczeń. W 1994 roku zdobył w Paryżu Prix Savignac, odpowiednik Oskara, za najbardziej znaczący plakat roku. W 2002 roku wybrane obrazy Olbińskiego umieszczono obok twórczości m.in. Andy'ego Warhola, Roya Lichtensteina, Keitha Haringa w projekcji na Grand Central Station w Nowym Jorku uświetniającej obchody Dnia Ziemi. W 2006 roku Prezydent RP uhonorował artystę złotym medalem Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis, a w 2012 roku Krzyżem Oficerskim Orderu Odrodzenia Polski. Prace Olbińskiego znajdują się w uznanych kolekcjach sztuki współczesnej, a także w prywatnych i korporacyjnych zbiorach od Japonii, przez Europę, po Stany Zjednoczone. W 2022 roku jako jedyny artysta z Polski reprezentował sztukę europejską na Biennale Sztuki w Pekinie. Od kilku lat jego ogromny dorobek twórczy wzbogacają rzeźby, które stanowią rozwinięcie plakatowych i malarskich motywów w przestrzeni.
