David Inshaw, The Game of Badminton

This beautiful painting called The Badminton Game by David Inshaw was painted at the turn of 1972 and 1973.

The painting takes its title from a poem by Thomas Hardy and is one of many that have been influenced by the Wiltshire landscape. Inshaw wrote: “My main goal was to create an image that captures the moment, but not like a photo that merely captures the event. I thought that an image could give such a moment a more universal, deeper meaning by composing one whole from many different, unrelated moments. ”

What makes us look at this picture as captivated? Maybe it is hard for us to believe that there are places like from fairy tales, that there are people who live in such a way that they rest among such well-kept bushes, probably have all their teeth and do not have to go to work by tram. And when they sweat, they smell like brandy.

David Inshaw, born in 1943, British artist, studied at the Beckenham School of Art from 1959–63 and the Royal Academy Schools from 1963–66.
