Paul Corfield, Perfect Landscapes

This is not our Eyeopener yet, but an inspiration for it …

As a child, Paul was fascinated by the flawless results that could be achieved with an airbrush. He watched his father spray-painted model cars by radio. He initially experimented with pin-up images, short movie animations and 3D software to discover his own organic style. First, Paul sketches his concept on paper and then applies it to a smooth canvas. Applying sepia varnish warms the surface before applying one or two coats of oil paint using sable bristles. Drawing from his love of the Dorset countryside, Paul creates an imaginary focal point and builds a landscape around it. Paul says: “For me, the countryside of Dorset is a perfect representation of idyllic rolling hills, green streets, farmers’ fields and hedges. I can’t imagine my life anywhere else. “

The work of Paul Corfield calls into question the location of the border between decorative painting and modern art, which we want to present in Eyeopener. Do Corfield’s landscapes meet the requirements we have imposed on ourselves and do they belong to modern art? Are they just idyllic illustrations for children’s books that could be the background for animated films about Peggy Cow? Indeed, it is difficult to say, and the creator himself probably has these questions more or less where the sun goes down behind his lakes.
