Małgorzata Borek, Czerwony

Red, brave and energetic and … great.

We came across such an extremely cheerful, hop forward picture at the director of the Powszechny Theater in Radom, Małgorzata Potocka. It was painted by its namesake, but Borek. The director tells about this painting in an unconventional, joyful and enthusiastic way.

We filmed the conversation with Małgorzata Potocka as part of our project # Uwolnijściana. This is the idea of promoting the possession of art – original art – at home. Most Poles do not have a book, a painting or a sculpture at home, though not because they cannot afford them. They can afford more expensive furniture or hot tubs. They simply do not feel such a need, because their needs have not been developed by education, and they do not have meetings with art, because they have nowhere and do not have such a reflex. Our project is supposed to change that – even if only to a small extent.

The painting is part of the series entitled: Trials of Color, which consists of many canvases struggling with light and with color. Borek paints similar canvases, covering them with different colors and changing patterns. Put together, as at the recent exhibition in Warsaw in the space organized by Józef Robakowski in the spaces of the former filmmaking, they make an extraordinary impression of Benedictine patience, deep reflection on the reality of color and a well-thought-out artistic plan. Opałka and his methodical struggle with the passing time, accounting registration of abstractions, are recalled.

Born in 1965 in Nysa, Małgorzata Borek, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. In 1993, she obtained a diploma in the studio of prof. Aleksandra Mańczak and the painting studio of prof. Andrzej Gieraga.
