These surreal, sometimes disturbing images attempt to undermine restrictive social conventions on women throughout history.
“I noticed that most women are presented in the same pose and in an identical gesture. As if they were imprisoned in corsets and crinolines, with no room for individuality and emotions” – says Juszkiewicz
“What I do can be considered a kind of recycling. I bring to life images from the past, and in these reinterpretations I am guided by personal emotions and experiences. This private perspective is key. I replace classic faces with elements from the natural world that are wild and ambiguous. My paintings are arise from a deep desire to break existing patterns and extract emotions, feelings and passions. “
Ewa Juszkiewicz, born in 1984, graduated from the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts in 2009. In addition to painting, he also creates animations, collages and drawings.
