Rubuni was born in 1969 in Livangula, Tanzania. He came to Dar es Salaam in 1988 in search of work and took a job as a house worker. After a year, however, he resigned and wrote a letter to the Tingatinga Cooperative asking them to hire him as a painter. Mzee Chimwanda became his teacher.
Rubuni Rashidi is a well-known painter of the Tingatinga trend, and his paintings are distinguished by their high quality.
In 2010, his work was used by Tokyo-based designer Ayumi Sufu (Jazzkatze), who showed a dress inspired by the work at Tokyo Fashion Spring.
In 2008 Rubuni Rashidi's works were presented at an exhibition in Sweden (Lilagalerie).
Wild animals are typical of his work.
