Edward Dwurnik

Geboren 1943 in Radzymin. Ein herausragender polnischer Maler und Grafiker, eine der bekanntesten Persönlichkeiten der polnischen zeitgenössischen Kunst. Einziger polnischer Künstler, dem es vor der Wende gelang, internationale Erfolge zu erzielen (ua Teilnahme an der „documenta 7" in Kassel 1982). 1963-70 Studium der Malerei, Grafik und Bildhauerei an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Warschau. 1965 In 1966 begann er unabhängig vom Studienverlauf mit einer Reihe von Zeichnungen und Aquarellen, 1966 mit Ölgemälden „Hitch-Hiking“ – charakteristische Stadtansichten aus der Vogelperspektive. Neben der Malerei praktizierte Dwurnik Grafik und Zeichnung – sowohl eigenständige Serien als auch Illustrationen. Er gestaltete gerne monumentale Bildkompositionen im öffentlichen Raum. Er schuf Zeichnungen und Gouachen für die Animationsfilme „Warzywniak, 360 ST“ (2007) und „Oasis“ (2009) unter der Regie von Andrzej Barański. Es entstanden mehrere Dokumentarfilme über die Arbeit des Künstlers, darunter „Fruit of the Earth“ (1977), „ Portrait from Nature“ (1984) und „Polska Nike“ (1987) unter der Regie von Andrzej Szczygieł und „The Travels of Edward Dwurnik“ (1995) von Grażyna Banaszkiewicz.
